AE Systems

MISTRAS started life as Physical Acoustics, an acoustic emission company whose founder was born in MYSTRAS, Greece. MISTRAS AE systems and sensors have always led the market by an enormous margin, in both range and performance. The many firsts over the years include the first sensor with built-in electronics, the first system to use distributed parallel processing, the first system with a 16-bit dynamic range (long before 16-bit ADs were commercially available), and the only sensor certified to survive 540 degrees C plus 1000 MRad radiation exposure. Many MISTRAS sensors and systems are designed and built specifically for a particular clients application, but the range of standard products find their way into most industries, used in materials testing, research and development, structural testing, structural monitoring, and a whole host of other applications. The smallest MISTRAS sensor is used in production testing of hard disc drives, there are sub-sea sensors monitoring each pile in an offshore wind farm, intrinsically safe sensors monitor separators for HIC (hydrogen induced cracking) and flexible risers for carcass and wire failure, and more than three hundred electronic sensors monitor a critical piece of London infrastructure. Acoustic Emission (AE) Sensors

  • Miniature sensors, where (small) size matters!
  • Integral electronic sensors, the "industry standard"; high sensitivity, high noise immunity, AST auto-sensor-test pulser, long cable drive.
  • Intrinsically safe (I.S.) sensors, for use in hazardous areas of oil and gas plant; integral electronic and non-electronic, with safety barrier and interface.
  • Underwater sensors, for use underwater!
  • Extreme environment; high temperature, thermal fatigue, low temperature, high radiation, subsea, deep space, high shock, high vibration.

Acoustic Emission (AE) Systems

  • USB Node:
    single channel low cost, for education, basic research, small applications. Multiple units may be synchronized, connects to a PC via USB which supplies the power requirements. All standard (AE) features, waveform optional.
  • PCI Express-8:
    Eight (AE) channels plus 8 DC parameter channel PCI express system board/sub-assembly, multiple units are used to make up to 96 channels in a single 19" width chassis (Samos express), or up to 32 channels in a compact portable chassis (Micro-II). Ultra high speed and performance, hits, waveforms, rf data streaming, and time driven data. PCI8e forms the basis for all (AE) multi-channel testing, monitoring, and research systems.
  • Sensor Highway:
    Eight to 32 (AE) channels plus DC parameters in an IP rated outdoor case with network connections, for continuous monitoring and industrial applications. May be supplied in an EXD case with safety barriers for installation in hazardous areas. Multiple systems may be connected and synchronized to the precision required for (AE) applications, meaning there is no limit to system capacity.
  • Pocket AE:
    Two (AE) channels and one DC parameter channel in a hand-held battery powered unit for making short term field measurements, noise, and attenuation studies, general purpose application software.
  • Pocket CORPAC:
    Two (AE) channels and application software for the detection or corrosion and stress-corrosion cracking in operating process plant.
  • Pocket ROLLPAC:
    Two (AE) channels and application software for the detection of cracking activity in steel rolls.
  • Pocket AE Power:
    Two (AE) channels and application software for partial discharge detection in electrical equipment.
  • LPME-VFMS:
    Multi-channel system for monitoring the primary circuit of PWR’s (pressurized water reactors) to meet regulatory requirements for the detection and location of loose parts.
