CAMBRIDGE, United Kingdom – July, 2015 – MISTRAS Group Limited (U.K. subsidiary of MISTRAS Group, NYSE: MG), recently supplied and installed monitoring systems on thirty-two offshore wind turbines in the Greater Gabbard Offshore Wind Farm, confirming the structural integrity of a turbine’s subsea pile structure. The contract was awarded following the trial and development of five turbines over an eighteen month period.
Designed to collect a broad range of data from field operations to monopile integrity, the first of the installed structural monitoring systems have remained in operation for over a year, providing 24/7 monitoring and real-time condition assessments. The management and maintenance of each system is performed by MISTRAS Limited technicians from the Cambridge U.K. location, and the hardware and software was developed by MISTRAS Group’s Products & Systems division, headquartered in Princeton Junction, New Jersey, U.S.A.
The Greater Gabbard Offshore Wind Farm has been fully operational since September 2012 and is a 50/50 joint venture partnership between SSE and RWE Innogy. The wind farm, located 23 kilometres (~12 miles) off the coast of Suffolk, comprises 140 wind turbines and has an installed capacity of 504 megawatts. The turbines generate enough clean electricity to power around 530,000 homes each year.
